Best bridge camera

My old man commented that he would like a camera like mine, it's a Canon 5D Mk1. However, on having a look at it he felt it was too big. So I'm starting to think a bridge camera could be the way to go.

However, I have NO idea about them! Don't really have a budget in mind at the moment, as it's going to be a learning exercise at the moment. So if there are a couple of models at different points in the price band that would be good.

As for what would be important, I'd suggest not too big, decent size screen, good zoom and easy to use.

If it's just size that's the problem, what about a smaller Canon DSLR? You'll be able to work it instinctively and then teach him...

I'd thought about that, but I think he will really be taken by the idea of one lens that has a lot of reach, rather than one with interchangeable lenses.

The Sony has a slightly longer reach.
