Are D-SLRs any cheaper at the airports?
Discussion
I don't want to put ideas into your head but have you looked at ebay.... you can get some bargins there if you are careful and don't mind a US or Far East Spec... just depends on how much risk you want to take.
eg here's one that went a while ago
good hunting

My understanding was that there was no vat/duty to pay on digital cameras.
Do you mean just on imports, or anywhere?
On imports.
I was looking to import a 10D from USA. They were selling for £650, so I spoke to C&I to find out what the hidden charges would be.
This is what they told me, although check for yourself.

I've not done this myself, but isn't there import duty as well as VAT that is payable?
If I remember correctly, it's import duty that is not charged on digital cameras, however you are still liable for VAT (if they catch you!)
You may be correct, although a 10D at £650 + VAT = £ 765.00 (compared with £ 1,100 over here).
Still looks o.k to me.
Go out to Singapore (helps if you are going there anyway
)
The latest models are straight from Japan. Last time I was there you could get a Sony CyberShot that had only been released in Japan a couple of weeks previously and didn't make it to the UK for another 6 months. And it cost about half the UK street price too.
You can even claim back the local taxes / VAT at Customs at Singapore airport before flying out. Marvellous.

Alternatively...
The following do buy now pay nothing for 12 months. These are good as long as you do pay of in 12 months (0%). But gets quite scary if you dont.

Have you tried www.7dayshop.com ? They had a deal on the 300D Rebel for about £630 inc lens.
Not as cheap as abroad but the service is good and a few PH'ers use them (myself included).
Cheers
