Need some urgent help!

Hi everyone - I know nothing about cameras but have bought my other half this one from Jessops:

My question is this - I stupidly forget to get a memory card and am now faced with a million different options and I have no idea which one to get - I am sure the SanDisk Extreme 16GB was around £50 in Jessops but seems to be just £18 on Amazon:

Is this the right card for the camera? Surely the price difference can't be that much? I know I want about 16GB and was told the Extreme Pro was not necessary and but that a bog standard card would be "too slow".

The last time I bought a Sony camera it had a Sony Memory Stick so I really have no idea!

That Amazon one will keep up with HD video which is the most the camera will ask of the card so should be absolutely fine.

For a large megapixel camera with 10 frame bursts as yours can do, I would suggest you do not need the most up to date cards.
The Amazon one should be fine .

The SanDisk Extreme is a great card and will, to some extent, future proof things by its performance - not only from taking photos but for downloading speeds as well.

At internet prices compared to High Street prices the the differentials between different types of card make going for the higher performance a real option even for a controlled budget.

You probably only need a class 6 card but class 10 would be available for the same sort of money espcially if there are deals on from the Channel Islands outlets. (See Wikipedia for a desciption of the SDHC card class code system). Bear in mind that class 10 does no mean that all cards are super fast. The mainstream card manufacturers, such as SanDisk, often these days offer products that are well above the performance required to be classed as a 10.

Should be good and very fit for purpose with plenty of capacity.

If one of you has a PC with an SD card slot I would use that for downloads - likely quicker than a cable connection to the camera.

If not Sandisk do a nice fast multi-card reader that would do the job via USB and is probably faster than the camera connection whilst not using battery power. Could be a wise investment if you find the card is filling up quickly!

Or fill all the spare electrical sockets with 'something important until the evening' so that she can't charge the battery.

I hear that leaving GPS systems switched on dramatically shortens the use period per charge as well - it may help to limit the available time without causing all day grief.
