If you mean digital, Fuji X100 goes to 2.0.

If film is an option, I recommend the Yashica Electro 35 rangefinder, it has a really nice 45mm f1.7 lens, you can get a good one for under £50.

Crikey, yes - my dad had one for a while. Cracking lens in a compact!

A quick search found the <£300 Olympus XZ-1 with 28-112mm (equiv) F1.8-2.5 lens, their cameras have always been very good IMO (much better than their financial reporting anyway)

Or a Canonet or an Olympus RC/RD All cracking lenses.
