Painting with lights

Hi Guys,

This is my first post around these parts. I've been lurking for about a month since I bought my first dSLR!

It's been something that I've been meaning to do for a long time, having had an interest in photography ever since I was handed a disused EOS1000 and began snapping away. Music sort of took over soon after as an outlet for my creativity, and although I've been dabbling in graphic art every now and then for nigh-on 10 years...photography has been but on the back-burner.

Anyway, I know when I'm browsing these forums that I like to see a few photos, so here are a few from my first few weeks!

Last Friday, one of my best mates (aka my photography mentor) and I went up into the hills with a view to getting a few snaps of my relatively new addition! It was about -2 degrees and the sky was as clear as could you hope for. The stars were just incredible.

And here's a couple that are the inspiration for the thread title. My mate wanted to experiment (I say experiment, he's got quite a lot of experience in it!) with some light-painting on long exposures:
