OK, for the thick-but-curious, what's the advantage of Instagram over anything else?

I haven't tried anything else so couldn't say, but it's a handy, simple app that takes a photo, lets you edit it with good filters/effects and then lets you share to all of the major social/blog networks as well as to your own followers/friends.

Been using it for about 18months. It's good apart from a lot of crap that gets posted. Pretty much like twitter - it's as good as the people you follow.

I don't think there's many serious users of Instagram who use the built in filters, for example I use a selection from Camera+, Filterstorm, Snapseed etc and use Squaregram to post to IG.

I'm sanjayprasad on it.

I use it but solely as a means to get photos online from my phone - iPhone sucks for that without 3rd party apps.

And the company was only 18 months old. £0 - £629,000,000 in 18 months?

Stupid times.

Yes, it's like split toning for simpletons.

However sometimes it can be done well.

Yes - I really struggle to see the point of it myself... Is it just because iPhones are rubbish at sharing photos with other applications?

I take a photo on my HTC and I can stick it on FB or email it or upload it to a photo site... Why would I want to make the picture look worse before I stick it online?

I get really bored with the crap photos people take and consider worthy 'sharing' just because they look a bit yellow...
