Camera advice please!

We're after a new camera for use at ice hockey games, holidays, family pics etc as our current one is not really up to the job.

Our budget is around the £150 mark and we've noticed the following are within budget

Nikon Coolpix L120
Fujifilm Finepix S2950
Olympus SP-810UZ

Does anyone have experience of these or anything else that may be suitable? We're not heavily into photography, so just want something that's fairly easy to use with options for a bit of variety in shots if we feel the need!

im veering toward a Nikon D5100 (body £450) but damned if i can work out what lens is required (£150 20mm-150mm range approx), VR, DX, G, ASF.....der..............

Superb camera. You will need AFS lenses if you want autofocus to work , DX format. The VR is a vibration reduction feature

I'll be upgrading from a D3000 to a 5100 this week. Jessops are doing a kit with the 18-55 lens (incl cash back) for around £530 so I'd be tempted to go for that for starters. I also have the 35mm 1.8 lens (which is fantastic) and the 55-200 lens so that covers most of the bases for now.

Depends what sort of ice hockey shots you may want to try for but I would guess that a medium price compact may not offer much to play with successfully for that type of action shot. I culd be wrong.

There are so many compacts on the market and the model change so rapidly that I'm really not sure any useful comparative advice is likely to be forthcoming. It's possible that no regualrs on here have either of the 3 cameras you listed.

You maye have to rely on good old 'reviews'.

Try www.dpreview.com and search their database.

As far as I know 'Steve's Digicams' also still offers a reasonable camera review facility but I have no idea how well they have kept up with new model releases over the years.
