Looks like nikon are releasing the D3200 with a 24mp sensor any time now. A new wifi dongle also and a lens or two.

Canon have released the new version (3.11.26 I think) of DPP with DLO for download and its improved a few perfomance / raw issues too. DLO will be very interesting to play with if you have a lens on the list.

That's a new one on me. The entry level bodies seem to have a very short shelf life. Pretty understandable I suppose from Nikon's point of view. 24mp on a crop sensor will be interesting. Seems Nikon are really chasing high res at the moment.

I understand that two lenses in the pipeline are an 18-300 dx lens and 28mm 1.8 prime.

It'd be quite useful if they would fulfil supply to meet demand for stuff before making new announcements!

Nikon employ ex Nike sweatshop school children for their lower end SLR productions, but they employ nearly two dozzen of them so there should be plenty of bodies available...

Well I've downloaded dpp and had a play with DLO and it seems to work rather well.

I could very well be interested in the 18-300 DX provided it gets a decent review for image quality.

I've owned the 18-200 VR for 5 years now. Its done thousands of photos and about 17 countries, and to say I absolutely love it is an understatement. It's the perfect do it all travel lens for me, and to my eyes, regularly produces really lovely sharp shots time after time.

Does the DLO make a noticable difference on images?, I've never used DPP so may have to give it a go to check the DLO stuff out.

Yeah DLO seemed to make a big difference in the few test shots I had a play with.

Though DPP is a nightmare and DLO + other lens optimisations take ages so it will be reserved for occasional use.

So how would this compare to say a D80? I know it has video capability, but is it much better?

IQ wise it will crucify it especially at high ISO.

I assume the D80 will shoot faster? And be more ergonomic, but not even convinced about that?

Thanks, I am happy witht he D80, but with the ability to do video as well as the improvements it may be worth a punt, unless there is a better Nikon option.....

Until we see results I'd hazard it's a close run between this new one and a D7000.... The latter certainly having the best DX sensor so far!

Mind you, I think the '32 comes in red, doesn't it!? I mean: game over!

Well, I hope that the video auto focusing has been improved in that case - It doesn't really work on the D3100 - it focuses when you start, but doesn't auto focus when you start recording.

Just had a look at the d3200 and sample image, its pretty damned good!

Looks like nikon have something slightly different to the nex7 sensor here too.
