Best low cost compact HD camcorder.

Before mods move this, can I just say that I'm not interested in an ad infinitum geek analysis, I'm just a normal tourist who uses a Canon A710iS point and shoot and a more cumbersome ergo less used SX1000iS for holiday photos which, to my eye at least, are damned fine to look at on my Benq LED monitor.
However, the video output on both is not HD and the usual 30fps with zoom which degrades the picture significantly.
Geek style reviews tend to tell you very little unless you're an uber-geek and inevitably even a good review ends with some derogatory slapdown at the end which "Mr Average" may not even spot after a digital camera.
So for videos of the kids, a useful zoom, decent HD, small size, good sound, has anyone got any recommendations. Won't be using it for stills as I'm happy with my Canons for that.
