Making a "mini studio" - what material to use for backdrop?

I'm thinking of making a mini studio to do some macro work.

What do I use that is non-reflective to make my mini studio. I want a black backdrop and a white back drop, but not sure what material to use.

Anyone got any ideas?

I used to use a mini cove designed for the purpose and a specialist table - the smoothly curved translucent type, this...

... which I used to cover with nicely textured (cotton based?) translucent coloured papers or samples of silk, cloth etc. from art shops of posh home furnishing 'emporia', must be the right word for them, no?!

I clipped lights with extendable/flexible arms to the tops and/or sides to control the lighting very precisely.

Using a (fantastic) Horseman LCX view finder camera to control depth of field etc. it worked very nicely. Got a number of very lucrative close up shots of flowers, vases + did some insurance work this way.

Some form of translucent white (evenly toned/no flaws that could throw light 'off') perspex? Being able to light from underneath is a nice touch that worked v. well for me.
