Which camera harness to get

Hi All, apologies but the search function is down so not sure if there is a thread on this already, but I am thinking of getting a camera harness/vest, but not sure which is the best to get.

Dont want to appear like some camera terrorist-lookalike, but do want to be able to access my camera fairly quickly when out walking, have it secure and have access to some other accessories, like my tripod, already have camera bags including rucksack type, but just wanted something lighter and more accessible

Well made, Loads of pockets everywhere, 3 big pockets on the back for big lenses.

If you are carrying loads of bits and pieces about it is more convenient and comfortable than a rucksack, but it just depends if you can get all you want in it?

I didn't say the word 'Cool'

I said 'coolest', which I would interpret in this context as 'the best of a bad bunch'!

I would like to add just for the record that I don't actually own a harness/vest type arrangement...

However I can see why they are very useful for a photographer who has loads of bits and pieces to carry about his or her person and doesn't want a lumbering rucksack swinging about and getting in the way.

Plus with a rucksack you have to rummage through them to get to everything at the bottom.

I've got and use most combinations;

1. Black rapid strap for carrying camera, superb piece of kit

2. Domke photo vest. Came free with an order from Calumet, handy for grabbing a few bits in summer, pockets take filter pouches etc.

3. Gitzo fleece, great for moderate weather, looks a bit paramilitary but loads of pockets, padded elbows for low angle shots etc.

4. Gitzo Four Seasons goretex coat, amazing but pricey, doesn't look much different to a normal goretex but pockets that'll take a 70-200 2.8 etc. Superb hood with peak to keep camera dry when shooting in torrential weather.

5. Think Tank belt kit, very good for lenses and bits, if you're going to keep another body and lens on it I'd recommend the chest rig conversion as it pulls down otherwise.

That looks extremely useful, warm, and very well made.

Sums it up really.

I shoot landscapes and it is ideal to have my gear about my person rather than in a bag when scrambling down hills and across beaches.

many thanks for respoonses, I like the range of options Mark, will have a good look through these, especially as I too like to do some landscape work, but my preference is street scene

I think I perhaps have use for gear similar to that suggested by Mark, I too find a rucksack a hindrance when out and about.

He is big into landscapes and I'm big into cityscapes and city night scenes, he spends his time scrambling up grassy hills and beaches, and I spend my time climbing over walls, fences and hiding under trains avoiding security guards...

The Gitzo Four Seasons coat is amazing if you can track one down for proper money, it even comes with a detachable hood with a fold out flap to fit around the camera and viewfinder when out in really unpleasant conditions.
