Im looking at replacing my Fuji camera, going to spend £150 max, but cant decide if i should get another Fuji or try a Nikon coolpics model for a change?

any views or advise please would be great?

Canon always get lots of praise & recommendations on here. I have a Nikon D-SLR but have two Canon compacts & about to get a third.

oh right never really looked at cannon before thought they were not that good, but everyone seems to rate on here,

just to confirm canon beats nikon and fuji?

also i noticed that camera is 12m mega pix where the nixon 3300 i was looking at has 16mega pics, would i notice that much difference?

Just stick to the big brands and your ok. There is very little between then expect little nice features that one will do but another won't.

Doesn't really help though.

One thing you could do with your shortlist is, when you've got a couple or three cameras that you're interested in, go on to Flickr's Camera Finder and see what people have managed to do with them.

Haha, there's 6 Canon cameras in my family, 4 of which are point and shoot, and they've all been great!

For £150 I'd get a Sony HX9, A canon IXUS 220. I wouldn't bother with a Fuji or a Nikon with a £150 budget.

I've had a Canon A70, A710iS and an SX1000iS and I can say that Canon give consistently good photos. They also come with software called Browser EX which is a really good programme for downloading, organising and viewing your photos.

I have seen the programs for Fuji and Olympus and have just bought a Panasonic and none of the download software is as good as Canon (though the newer download program isn't as good as the older ones, annoyingly).

I'd point you towards a Panasonix Lumix Tz8 (or TZ10 for a bit more money) - excellent lens on both (Leica zoom), really easy full Auto Mode, yet you can delve into the settings and "have a play" with some manual override stuff if you are so inclined...

I have a Nikon D300 & D40 + lenses etc, and I can honestly say that unless I'm being paid or commissioned to take photos, I'll take them with the Lumix 90% of the time

One tip - whatever compact you go for, turn off the automatic ISO, and fix it to something like ISO 200 for everyday work, and only change it for low light stuff. Makes the world of difference to your image quality....

Lower pixels will probably make image quality better if anything. Sadly compact manufacturers seem to cram more into a sensor than it can handle, reducing quality....but more MP looks better on the specification sheet....it's basically a marketing gimmick. Regardless, 12mp is pretty much big enough to print an A2 poster so you most likely won't need more than that!

As others have said, all the cameras are pretty much alike in this class, so you should probably just get the one you like the button layouts and 'handling' of IMO.

Ok, so how many Panasonic, Fuji and Nikon cameras in the household to compare the Canons with?

My dads had a couple of Panasonics with little joy and a Fuji which was disappointing, my brother had a Nikon which wasn't great. All were around this price range.
