How do you produce an image like this?

Are you close to the people with a short lens or far away from them with a long lens?



I have an idea for doing something similar, capturing a "magnified" moon coming over one of Manamas towers, but don't technically know how to do it.

All help is welcome.

The people are far far away in order to make them appear small relative to the sun/moon (assuming it's not photoshopped).

My guess is that he was eclipse-watching with a very long lens and the rest of the scene was a chance bonus. Probably a good viewing spot with hundreds of people all around.

I read an interview with the photog.

He used a 400mm (f2.8L I think) lens, 1/6400th f11 or so from memory, knocked it down from 1/8000th to get more light on the people. Took a bit for him to find the right loction

Its an epic shot. Will see if I can find the interview somewhere.
