Video question

I wanted to download this Youtube clip, edit it and e-mail it.
We start with www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tpvVTp57KU
Using Download Helper I can save this as an .mp4 file in various qualities/file sizes.
The only editing programme I have is Windows Movie Maker which only handles .wmv, so I use WinFF Video Converter to convert the .mp4 into .wav.
So far so good. Now I want to chop the end off, so I open Windows Movie Maker, drag the file onto the timeline, cut off the end and go to 'save movie'. Except it gets only to 1%, then jams and the time remaining just keeping clocking up to 60 mins+, at which point I assume something is broken and cancel it.
Any ideas please?

Are you on the latest Movie Maker? It's a lot less pants than previous versions which had endless bugs.

I loked for an 'update' button but no luck. Will try harder. My version used to work; I wondered if either it has got knotted up somewhere or .wmvs are now made in different flavours.NB I run XP Pro if that's significant.
Movie Maker is sulking completely now; click shortcut and nothing happens; will need reboot.
