I'm off to RIAT this year, and would like to improve upon the usual aircraft pics I take. Current 'kit' is Cannon 40D / with a Tamron 70-300mm zoom lens.
Normally I set the camera to Manual and change the shutter speed to 1/250th to try and get some prop blur. But I'm finding that even when I try to set the auto focus to servo I'm not getting pin sharp results, alot of the aircraft detail i.e dont step here signs are always quite blurred ?

So if anyone has any suggestions, I'm much appreciate it, especially as the weather is looking pants again.

I can't go this year frown but I had a little success with the Bournemouth Air Festival last year...
You don't need a really low shutter to get a sense of speed, but it helps.
