Tried to shoot the moon this evening, when I went to fire the shutter with the wired remote, it wouldn't fire.

Would fire from the shutter butting on camera but at 300mm I needed hands free.

Have tried indoors on every setting, it is like it does the half shutter push, the little light on the front lights up, it autofocuses but refuses to fire. Again it will when I push the shutter button on the camera.

Am I missing something ridiculously silly??

Just tried a friends Hahnel and it works as expected, unfortunately his D7000 is with Nikon for cleaning so can't try mine on his.

We had the back off, doesn't even seem like there is much that can go wrong in there.

Stumped, he is going to get the Nikon service centre to have a look when he picks his camera up.

Quick fix - use the self-timer instead.

Or shutter delay if it has that option.

Yeah the moon has gone now anyways, got sidetracked.

Also discovered my wireless one needs a new battery!

Sorry if this is a silly question...

Are you sure the plug's pushed in all the way? I remember when I first tried the remote on my D90 it didn't work, but I hadn't pushed the plug hard eniugh.

Could be something to do with the way your AF priority is configured that's not apparent when firing from the button.

Need to set it in release priority so the body doesn't try to check AF accuracy before each shot
