Hi all,

I've done lots of research into what microphone is best with the GoPro video camera, the internal one is terrible and suffers badly from wind noise.

I bought the Olympus ME-15 mic, it's an omni-directional mic that is really good value at just £15! i would really recommend the mic with the GoPro. It's a mono mic so you'll need to overlay it to both channels in post editing. The other option is to buy a splitter, 2x mono - Stereo and then run two ME-15 mics to give you two mounting spots and great stereo sound. i've just bought another one and will post a vid up soon.

here's the link to compare the sound between GoPros mic and the Olympus.

I hope this helps anyone who doesn't know which mic to go for! Please note the mic was mounted a bit too close to the exhaust so it's a bit distorted.

Nice one, thanks for the tip.

that mic would work well with some undercovers: http://www.rycote.com/products/personal_mic_soluti...

then you can stick the mic anywhere, and use some more stickies to help route the cable.

Thanks for the tip! Need to get an external mic too. It sounds so much better.

Nice one.

Can you still use the hard protective case and run an external mic on the Hero 2?

Yeah technically you'll need a ridiculously expensive skeleton housing, but i thought it was a massive waste of money and since i had a spare housing kicking around from a previous GoPro (now 2 miles deep in the Indian Ocean!) i just drilled a hole in the side of the housing and then filed it down, it now has the required hole in the side for an external mic and charger, it works great and is still really strong! i'd recommend this if you have a spare case. i think £35 is a lot of money for a plastic case!
