Don't you just hate it when people still refer to photographs as "Snaps"

Sorry but it bugs me - Just seen it applied by someone who has just posted some of his "snaps" on Flikr

If they look like snapshots, then they can call them snaps. (there are probably plenty of them at Flickr!)

I think it's just a self-deprecating way of describing one's work. There seem to be so few useful words for desribing the generic the subject and/or the visual content that 'snap' still seems to suit just as well as it did way back in history before digital.

'Snap' to me implies no setting up. In other words, you see something, lift the camera up and fire. It can still be a good photograph.

Sorry makes me sound like a photo snob

For anyone who still uses their super-duper dslr in green box mode, and takes all their photos without putting much thought or input in to the picture taking process, I would suggest that most of the images they produce could quite correctly be described as 'snaps'.

Someone asked me last month if I'd written any 'ditties' recently.

I actually responded by saying that, no, I'd been out taking snaps.

There are many words of 4 letters that are often used by my wife (but perhaps even more frequently by me) to describe my photography. I'd be delighted if the words were as good as 'Snap'

Always makes me laugh when I show a guy at work any of my stuff - he always says " Oh, yeah, thats come out well".
