Nearest Sony to Canon s95/s100

My FIL wants to buy as new camera, I have tried to convince him to go the Canon route.
However he's adamant he wants a Sony.

Sony comes close to the s95/s100 ?

Tell him to get a grip and buy the Canon. Don't tell me you don't wear the trousers!

BTW.. (Seeing where you are) ALMOST booked another visit to record in Prague in Dec, but didn't need 40 strings this time, so London it is.

Had a play with an rx100 a couple of weeks. Seriously impressive!

RX100 is the equivalent camera in terms of size/form. It is a lot more expensive, but a different league image-wise.

I am selling my S100 to make way for one.

Serious photographers do not indulge in brand discrimination. That is for weak minded individuals who are only interested in impressing others with their camera gear. Ultimately, it is individual skill with ones' camera that determines a good picture, irrespective of its' brand. There are plenty of good second hand Minolta lenses which are razor sharp and wonderful colours.

The one good thing about sony cameras is you know theres a better alternative from another manufacturer..

The RX100 looks decent but they do tend to spoil things once the image leaves the sensor.

I had a thread recently where I was recommended an S95/S100. How much are you asking for it?

I think he was recommended the rx100 at the local Sony dealer, but it's around 600quid here. He will use the camera mainly for personal use, but occasionally he will use it for taking pictures during operations (he's a surgeon and publishes quite a few papers on his techniques as well as giving presentations all over Europe), but during either scenario I'm almost certain it will never be used in anything other than full auto mode.

So chances are the sony, even the s95, is way over-specced for his needs.
