I have been lurking around here a while and am amazed at the fantastic pictures on the Random Photo thread.
I know that most photos are post processed and was wondering just how much by?
I would be interested to see peoples fantastic pictures but in two forms, straight out of the camera and the finished article.
Also any tips/hints on post would be gratefully received!
Here is one of mine, starting from a low base! A quick snap that I took whilst I should have been concentrating on what I was actually doing!
I wold also be interested to see how far you could take the original that I posted, this would give me a good Idea of just how much there is to learn! (Crops etc)

Uh-oh!I think you've done an appropriate touch-up, but it looks like it could do with 1.5 degrees clockwise.

I have seen some of your Photos, would you be willing to put the before and afters up, or is that something that is closely guarded? I'm just interested to see how much work goes into getting some of the stunning results I see on here.

I don't publish customer's wedding photos (other than those on my site) although some would be interesting exercises in the benefits of RAW! Much of it is levels and curves, highlight recovery and white balance, so not very exciting. Might be able to dig out other stuff though, if you can give me a clue what you like.I understand that everyone has their speciality, so if different people post different subjects it would benefit some of us enthusiatic amateurs, giving us hope!

Yeah, but, no, but........it's all down to personal preference - there is NO right or wrong.
Then the next thing is that if you shoot RAW, a "plain", unadulterated conversion is a meaningless comparison - try these, but remember that any "straight" conversion whether in-camera or on a computer depends on already set algorithms.

That surely has to be key; to my eyes, two of the 'processed' photos there look wrong. The white car in the trees looks over-exposed and artificial (although the treatment of the trees has improved them a lot) and the second picture of the girl makes her look hugely over-exposed - her shoulder is disappearing into the cushion behind her and the side of her nose is blending into her face. However I can see that the blemishes on her skin (on her face and thigh) have been removed which is good. No criticism intended for either photographer, but it shows how taste differs greatly.
