Guided by a thread on this very forum, I bought the brilliant little Manfrotto MK-C3 H01. It's a cracking little tripod, but it's slightly too lightweight to cope with the mahoosive 50-500 Sigma.

I was trying to take some shots of the full moon the other night and it just didn't feel sturdy enough. I drafted in the help of my (easily 30 year old) Slik 88, but that's literally on its last legs with a second-hand cheapy head on it and wasn't really up to the job either.

Ideally, it would accept this:

from a Manfrotto clamp, so I'm guessing another Manfrotto - but which one?

I use a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 and love it... lightweight, nice and tall and sturdy. If you don't want to pay out for carbon then the metal version is equally excellent but heavier
