video software

Hi all
Christmas is a coming and my 11 year old son wants a video camera and video software.
Video camera I am guessing I could sort out but i have no idea re the software!
What would you recommend?
Easy to use but future proof as he gets more into it?

Windows Live Movie Maker, it's free and good.

Maybe not if your lifestyle revolves around Apples. (As any self respecting 11 year old buddy videographer's might.)

Personally I blame H&S for making facilities for hoop and stick fun unavailable.

If it's on Windows, Sony Vegas is cheap and good.

Apples? I use movie maker on the win7 machine. It copes quite happily with the .mp4 from the go-pro. Certainly good anti for editing, and other basic stuff.

On 'apples' iMovie is pretty good as well. Both free. If he likes doing that sort of thing, get him something a bit more 'pro' later.

I used to use WMM, but I hated what they did to the latest version, which prompted me to try Vegas.

He is using windows and a standard laptop.
He is a 11 year old so no fruit I am afraid :-)
Does vagas have,`green screen`?

Lightworks is free as is Serif Movieplus Starter Version.

Serif Movieplus x6 has a lot of features and is not that expensive.

Adobe Premiere and Elements bundle on Amazon is a good price at the mement too.
