Dead GoPros - Anyone else?

I was a big supporter of GoPros and used them for a number of applications (car, dogs, biking, canoeing) but I have had three die on me in one year.
The net is littered with similar stories of GoPros that will not turn on. Two I sent back to GoPro for a repair, but it takes around 6-8 weeks and one of the repaired devices is now dead again.
Compared to the promotion videos its not like I am being overly harsh with them so it looks like the manufacturing quality and/or components are poor. On the flip-side they are relatively cheap, especially for the previous models. However I will not be buying any more based on the number of failures I have had.

To be totally honest I've not heard of anyone I know having problems.
I have come across memory card issues which stop the units recording etc etc but not normally anything more than a clean format would sort.
Three seems very bad luck and as you say they should put with a fair bit of abuse.

Both off Amazon, did contact the companies but was forwarded onto GoPro in the US. Its a shame because when they work, they are perfect. I have tried various "fixes" from a few forums but no joy, and it is definitely not an isolated case. Yep, one of my 3 Go Pros HD2s turned into a brick. I ended up sending it to them to repair and they sent back a brand new one as a replacement. So I guess they do not repair easily...
Mine are used solely on various track cars so probably get a fair amount of vibration/bouncing around but even so that is what they are designed to do.
I am looking at alternative cameras but the perfect replacement option is really not yet available in the market for me with the Contour, Drift, JVC, Sony, Rad Cam, etc all having their pluses and minuses. Everything involves a compromise.
