This little dilemma has had me going around in circles, which is driving me mad!!!! I have read a few reviews (DP review etc.) and still can't decide. Does anyone have any first hand experience of them both? I know the 650D has the touch screen, but everythng else seems very similar, including price. I should also add that I will be upgrading my 1000D which I hope to sell (body only £100-150?). I have 18-55, 55-250 and the 50mm f1.8.

I had a similar dilemma a year or two ago between a 60 and a 600. Ended up going for the 60 - very little to choose between them at the time but haven't regretted it.
Reality is that either would probably work fine for you - why not try and have a shot of both and see which you prefer ?

let us know how you get on I upgraded from the 1000D to the 60D and I'm happy with the choice. I use mine for motor racing a lot so the increased fps rate was a big deciding factor. Also like Rob said the ergonomics of the camera are ideal. Quite a bit heavier than the 1000D but a nice fell about it. Not sure if the 650D has the same features with regards to changing settings but the ease of this compared to the 1000D is a big improvement. I've also had touch screen before on a compact camera and i personally wasn't a fan.

The second dial and the more comfortable handling do it for me.
Suggest you keep the 1000d too unless you really need the cash. I bought a 7D having had a 400D for several years intending to sell on the 400D - 7D better in every way, but there are times when I'm very to still have a smaller, lighter camera that wouldn't be a disaster if it got lost/broken/stolen.

OTOH, a colleague of mine has just bought a 600d (we have a 650 at work and I have a 7d). It's a lovely little camera, most of the func of the bigger ones and she loves it because there's less to worry about, which I think is fair, and can focus on learning the skills rather than learning the camera. Obviously depends where one is on the learning curve but just thought I'd share...Thanks guys for all the advice. Looks like the 60D is edging it at the minute. Will probably pop into my local camera shop and ask them how much they will give me for my 1000D body. What do you guys think - £100-150? It has been used and is not in mint condition (mainly the screen at the back having some small scratches on) but still works faultlessly.
Quick update - Purchased a 60D today. I was able to part exchange my 1000D body and got the 60D body for £450 which I was pleased with (the 60D was an ex display too so managed to get a good price). Will post up some of my first pics with the new camera when I get the chance. Thanks again all.
