That's a wide range of subjects - it's going to be tricky to cover that lot with one lens but you're going to struggle to afford a body + two lenses so you're probably looking at a body + a 'superzoom'.
I recently sold a Tamron 18-270 for £300ish - great range and decent image quality. You could stick that on a used Canon 500D/550D/600D all are decent and in the price range I think.

I'd been watching a few with a view to getting one for an up and coming holiday but went with the Tamron 18-270 PZD instead - this was from MPB Photographic so came with a 6 month warranty.
They've got plenty of kit available so could be worth checking out as the warranty gives a comfort factor when it comes to second hand.
On the basis you're only considering Canon and Nikon, then I'd lean toward D7000 with 18-105 kit lens, pre-owned.

If you're not averse to thinking beyond either of those two brands, then I'd steer you towards a Pentax K5 and a lens or two for the same sort of outlay.

These 3 bodies have very similar innards so I'd say yes the lens is more important. Having said that if you have big fingers I'd suggest sourcing a second hand 60D (which is physically bigger than the other two) and get the best lens you can afford which covers the range you are interested (which seems to be everything!). I'd stand by my earlier call of a Tamron 18-270.Upatdawn said:

Your OP suggested you had a combined budget of £650 for body and lenses. Given that you've spent £380, does that mean you've still got £270 you can spend on lenses? The Tamron 18-270 looks good but out of my budget for now
