GoPro Hero 2 settings :-)

Quick question to the PH massive, I posted this previously in the wrong forum so forgive me if you saw it under motorsports ;-)
I've got a couple of GoPro's and I'm going to use them incar and on the car for an upcoming test. Are there any professionals that can give me a definitive answer about what formats to use? Is the 1080-30 at 170 degrees just the best to use by default and then drop down to 720-60 for any slow motion shots? And, when mounting in the car I've got to give consideration to the 'spot' setting, right?
At 1080-30 mounted on a rear wing make everything look very distant and in a gold fish bowl and what about pit garage shots with a smoothie mount, 1080p again?
One last question, does the Hero3 have such a convex lens as the Hero2 and give the same image distortion?
I haven't got time to go out and test it out so I'm relying on those that know :-)

You can change the FOV in the menu 170/120/90degs (iirc) to remove the fishbowl distortion.
Nothing to do with the lens shape.
btw why not run it in PAL mode as opposed to NTSC ???
