Ok,Fujifilm finepix sl1000 new or Canon 500d second hand?

I've never had a dslr before,or anything more advanced than a camera phone to take pics!have narrowed my choice down to a new Fujifilm sl1000,or a second hand Canon 500d with 15-55mm lense and a Sigma 70-210mm lense?I want cold hard facts as to why i would be disappointed in buying the sl1000 over the Canon.I want a camera to photograph birds/wildlife.Thanks.

Fujifilm -> go and check out what the shutter lag is like if you're hoping to use it for wildlife
Canon and Sigma -> 210mm isn't very long for birds (unless they have two long legs, or are peacocks, or are on Sesame Street) you might like to re-think lens choice for your average common or garden sparra'

Love my Fuji X-S1, but if I didn't have it, I'd have the HS30.

That all said, the X-S1 can be had for in or around budget (which I've based on the price of the SL1000 sold from a UK reseller rather than grey import - TekPlanet)
