Decent camera ruck sack please

I am a newbie to photography and have a Nikon D40. I have recently invested in a new lens a 55-300mm which i am really enjoying.
The only problem is that the camera will now not fit into my LowePro camera bag wit hteh larger lens fitted.
I am looking for a decent camera bag - ideally ruck sack to hold my DSLR with 55-300mm lens, plus te stock 18-55mm lens and a few others small items such as memory cards etc.
Budget is the biggest problem as I dont really want to spend more than £40 on this. I have seen one by Dura gear on Ebay, but am unsure of quality. Tamrac do some nice ones as do think tank, but these are pricey.
I dont like the bags which suspend the camera lens facing downwards inside and would rather have a small opening for the camera, so the ruck sack can be used for storing lunch etc...
Any recomendations? I am not opposed to buying second hand either.

I've just brought a Kata 123-Go-30 off Ebay brnad new for £50 to rpelave my Lowepro Urben Phot SLing 150 (?) as I needed more space after buying a 70-300 lens I couldn't fit everything in the good the Kata holds my Nikon D3100 with 70-300 atacched 18-50 and 55-200 lenses flash and other bits and has a upper section for other odds and ends such as wollies hat etc. Haven't actuyally used it our doors yet but it appears to be very good.

Always a difficult call. In my experience getting a bigger bag seems a good idea, until you load it up with everything and give yourself a bad back! 
I currently mostly use my old Billinghams, but also often use a Lowepro Slingshot and have also had a Lowepro Fastpack at the same time.
The Slingshot I have is now at least six-seven years old and was bought secondhand for about £40, IIRC. It's only the 200 which lets me easily carry dSLR body with three to four lenses plus two spare batteries, range of cards, one of my Speedlights, Polarbear filter (big 77mm one in a big case). Used to be OK for the bigger size D2 body too, but would not quite cope with a 70-200mm, but would easily take the smaller 70-300mm. Plus, the whole idea of the Slingshot works on the smaller bag.
I added a Fastpack 300 (I think, might have been 350?) which easily swallowed the 70-200mm. Trouble was I would end up carrying five lenses plus one or two speed lights and batteries and battery charger and spare AA batteries and the kitchen sink and strapping the tripod to it. You "could" try and use it like the Slingshot - over one shoulder and swing it round - but you wouldn't once it's loaded up!
I've since sold the bigger bag - smart move!
Either everything in the bigger Billie and perm three from six lenses at any time or maybe one or two lenses in the little Billie. Forward planning and don't mope when you don't bring the right thing with you!!!!
But overall, I would recommend anything in the Lowepro range given my experience - they're not indestructible, but they aren't too bad.
