Camera for around £150

Just after a bit of advice if possible.

I need to buy a camera but don't know much about them.
If someone could point me in the direction of any decent ones (if its possible to get them for £150!) I'd appreciate it.

Would like a rechargeable battery, flash and if at all possible video to some degree.
I'll only be using it for holiday pics, so nothing fancy.

If an extra £20-30 gets an infinitely better camera then so be it.

You know there are so many cameras on the market at the target price and the models change so frequently that it is almost impossible to keep up let alone have an opinion that one would wish to share but might prove very wrong.

Anyone who has one might have a valid voice but otherwise I think you might as well search for reviews on the 'net and see what they say. Don't take them as verbatim truths but by comparison of 2 or 3 you will probably get a feel for whether a particular camera seems to be liked or loathed.

If a particular feature looks like it may be a problem for your needs you could then describe your needs here, link to the review and ask if people think your concerns are valid. You may get a range of answers!

No manufacturer has a range of cameras that, within each target class, are full proof and clear choices for everyone who wishes to take a snap or two.

For starter pointers you could do worse than look at whatever they have on the DPReview web site (although recently they seem to be less likely to cover all new announcements and more likely to be looking at phones) or Steve's Digicams which certainly used to offer some fair reports of hands-on experiences but is not somewhere I have needed to spend a lot of time recently. (Based in Florida though so you usually get some nice bright and sunny sample shots to improve a dull day!)

I quite liked Olympus kit back in film days and their digital offerings can be very good indeed but, as with the others, it's not a gimme.

My (very ) limited knowledge on cameras , I would suggest this. I think most compacts in that price range are going to be much the same.
Ive recently got a Panasonic LX7, personally Id try and get a 2nd hand LX5 or Canon S90/95 or similar.

You'll find for your set price of £150 most features will be the same across brands.

The way I buy a new camera is to see how each one feels by getting to a shop with a good range and getting to grips with them. They all have a slightly different button arrangement and menu view and one will be more suited to you than the other.

It's a bloody minefield out there - so many to chose from.
I'll be taking some time in the coming week to look at some reviews, and hopefully narrow it down to 3-4 and post them on here.
