Recently bought a 2nd hand 5D Mk1, and am liking it so far. Also got a 24-105L to go with it, which I should have done years ago.

Anyway, my father is offering me his old 17-40L f/4. I'm wondering if I need it - whether the extra width vs the 24-105 is worthwhile, whether it's a sharper/quicker lens than the 24-105, or whether it's going to sit in my bag gathering dust...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Martin.

Ever find the 24-105 not wide enough? 17mm on a ff is pretty wide smile

I use. My 17-40 a lot. Its the same speed as the 24-105 and about the same quality but better below 30 mm or so

I use my 24-105 a lot and love it but there are a few occasions it's not wide enough - so I'm probably going to get something wider like a 17-40 smile
