Enlarger, etc...

I think I already know the answer, but:

I'm sorting out my old stuff, and amongst it is an old Zenith UPA5 enlarger (the one that packs into a case), plus basically a complete darkroom setup (Ilford safelamp, filters etc, etc.).

Shall I just dump it, or would some random student have any use for it?

Great. I keep telling myself that one day I'll show the kids how photographs used to get printed, but I know it will never happen.

I've got a UPA 5A, it smelled 'funny' the day I opened the box (from Jessops of Leicester not that many will remember that brand) and 35 years later it still does. I got a book about Russian cameras and radios with some pretty Russian women in it, 1/3rd of a Century later and I still vividly remember it.

Anyway, it's junk, throw it in a skip. I can't, too much nostalgia The Durst is probably more valuable, but I'd expect £10 on eBay max...

Bloody Hell - my UPA5 also smells *very* odd, in fact I clearly remember spraying Brut33 inside the case back in '87 when I bought it (second hand for £5). Probably made it worse.

Probably a secret Russian smell designed to take over the world. Whilst I always disliked it, I always had to check to see if it was still there.

Tell a lie, it was "Denim" deodorant I used.

I thought the previous owner might have done a wee in it or something. It must be the plastic or foam?

Mines in the garage.

ETA: Just had a quick sniff at mine, and lo and behold the smell has all but gone. The foam has stuck to the enlarger bits though. Must have got damp.

Sod it, I'm keeping it.

It looks so unbelievably sinister when assembled PLUS it packs into it's own briefcase. When the time comes, I'll easily be able to fool the kids into thinking it was captured from a Russian spy during the cold war, and is in fact worth a fortune.
