Flickeringp screen
Discussion
I bought a 24" dell screen to use with my Sony laptop for editing.
So when the laptop is plugged in the screen flickers, but if you unplug the laptop it stops.
Sony support told me to get a ground isolator, but electrical shops don't seem to have such a thing http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tacima-Conditioner-Frequen...
Is this the right thing? It's really annoying!

It's a VGA cable connection, I tried changing frequency with no change. If the laptop is on batteries the screen is fine, it's only if its plugged in that there is a problem
Ah! You meant when the notebook is plugged in to the mains rather than when it is plugged in to the monitor! Now I understand.
Dodgy brick (power supply) I would think. You can get extension leads that claim to provide power conditioning facilities but that may not be adequate.
FWIW the only time I have seen anything like that recently was playing with a Raspberry Pi. No happy with the randomly selected power supply (from a different device but nominally just adequate voltage). I also tried it using a a "USB" charger type external battery which seemed to be about .1V down on what the Pi was happy with. It could be kind of OK until the battery got close to total discharge. (There was a purpose to trying that option). However with a pukka power supply giving the full 4.9+ Volts the Pi prefers .... no problems at all.
So I would suspect the brick (if it has one - I'm not familiar with Sonys) or something in the power input socket circuitry.
I could be wrong of course - I'm no expert.
