What's the most photos you've stitched into a panorama?

How about 4,000?

Just how much patience - to say nothing of CPU grunt - do you need to take four thousand separate exposures with a 1,000mm lens and then stitch them all together to create a panorama???

One person who could tell us is the creator of the Gigalyonpanorama of Lyon. Megapixels??? Pah! Try 77 Gigapixels!

Info I have from the source location is that it's a 500mm f4.

I assume you just point gigapan at the folder and go to bed..

Basically, but you import them and roughly align them in the order they've been taken e.g. Top row left to right, second row, right to left or first column; bottom to top, top to bottom etc.

Then leave it to do it's thing.

You've still got to take the 4,000 images though, unless that's also automated?

Yup - almost fully automated.

This is what 5K buys you... a spinny thing on a stick It's in German but you'll get the idea - that was what was used for the Lyon one.
