I need to 'tidy' a jpeg for a canvas and am clueless!

I took a photo with my phone which on further inspection I'd quite like as a canvas in my office. The problem is, I have no idea how to clean it up and crop it - well okay I might manage to crop it, but no idea how to sharpen up the nasty bits, remove noise, etc.

I have paint.net on my lappy but little else, and I have no idea how to use it properly. I seem to be able to auto level stuff, but that's about all.
The original is 2.75 Mb and the size is 3264 pixels wide by 2448 pixels high. 96dpi and bit depth 24 (whatever that means!)
What I would like to do is to crop it a bit, sharpen it up and make it presentable enough for a canvas of about 100cm x 80cm or so.
Can anyone offer any advice please?

If the location isn't far from you, I'd be tempted to go back with a 'real' camera and just take the photo again!
Failing that, I'd suggest leaving it up to the canvas printer to clean it up for you - just send them the file as it is as they should have more experience of what's best to 'enhance' it for canvas, particularly if you dont' have access to photoshop.
