Chaps,

Although I am not a huge football fan, I am going to Ibrox on Bank Holiday Monday with the family to see a Rangers Legends v Manchester Utd Legends match.

I fancy taking my 60D DSLR with me, and my EF-S 55-250mm lens.

Will this give me sufficient zoom in order to get decent close-ups of challenges etc?

Are DSLR cameras allowed into large stadia by non-professional photographers?

Cheers

really depends where you are sat to be honest, shots looking down from stands tend not to be great. If you are in the lower tiers, you have a good chance at corners/throw ins. I found taking good pictures at matches very hard.

You wont have a problem with the size of the camera lenses given its a charity/exhibition match.

Crank up the shutter speed as high as you can get it, even increase the iso a touch.

the 250 end should be ok... Closer and lower you get the better!

Best to check with the club. In my experience clubs often don't allow it at league/cup matches, but for an exhibition match I would imagine that they might be a bit more relaxed.

Difficult tbh as it will very much depend where you sit (and the size of the stadium).

I made a efforts in the Nou Camp during a Champions League game using a 70-200L and a 10-20. I had no issues with getting the camera through security but I suspect the Spanish (as with most things) are more relaxed.

As expected, I didn't get many 'decent' shots owing to our seating position and the fact he stadium is massive.

None, you're only spectating.
