Seeing the amount of people wanting help with photoshop, I thought I would share the method by which I learned my 'shopping craft way back in the mid '00s, meaning that people can help themselves instead of annoying the rest of PH.

Firstly, download GIMP, an open-source version of photoshop:
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Now, once you have that set up an installed, get yourself over to this website:
http://digimods.co.uk/tutorials/

Check out all the various mods you can do on the list of tutorials down the left hand side. A good place to start would be "wheel change", the most common request on here.

Now, you wont be great on your first attempt. Or second attempt. But practice makes perfect, and I am almost as good now as the bloke who wrote the tutorials. The more you do it, the more neat little tricks you learn. Some of the controls in GIMP are different to those in PS, but if you really cant work out which tool from the tools pane to use, then googling "how to [xxxxx] in GIMP" usually provides an answer.

So go forth, PH-ers - get out there and do it yourself!

Mods: any chance this could be made into a sticky?

Lets not teach people how to photoshop - it will stop all the fun that's had in photoshop threads.

No, it will increase the fun in the genuine photoshop threads such as the chris harris one. It will reduce the amount of annoying, same-y "what does my car look like in this colour" threads

Look, I started this thread in response to the large number of angry posts on other threads from pissed off graphic designers, moaning (with good reason IMO) that they dont spend thousands on business premises and computer equipment to provide services for free. I was therefore attempting to teach the rest of PH a useful skill, well excuuuuuuuuse me for doing something useful for once.

It's alright, it's all good.

One bloke said it once right, and like....get this..(this'll kill ya)................different people quote it.

How cool is that?

It's not hundreds of pissed of designers or 'shoppers after all.

And you thought..........laugh

Ok then, was going to do a search for a photo shop thread and then this pops us as if by magic. Kinda related at least.
I am what could be as best a hobby photographer, take a few every now and again and get lucky and bag a good one the odd time. I keep getting offered Photoshop Elements 11 for $99. Does anyone know if this represent good value ?? I am currently using Picassa but I assume this will be a step up in realtion to what I can do. Thanks in advance and apologies for hacking the thread. Cheers

Ooft, that's a bit harsh. Poor Mat777. frown

Poor lad needs looking after, not to be made a bigger figure of fun.

On a similar theme, any chance someone could photoshop my car to be a different colour? I quite fancy Porsche Peppermint Green.
