So are they trying the Caterham method? "You can have it cheaper, but you'll have to build it yourself".

I'd prefer a Locost option.....

heh... well now that I've lured the Canonites out of hiding to be picked off...

It was actually a camera that was 'water damaged' - by which I think he means he dropped it in a pond - and Nikon Service wrote it off. So presumably he got a replacement, and took the old one apart just to see what it looked like

It crossed my mind whether any of the parts would have a value...?

Some guy on a canon site did a similar thing with his 300D on an asia based forum, except he pulled it apart just to paint it black.

he did a fantastic job too, untill it came to putting the lettering back on where the choice of technique and font went a little wrong

Canon must have taken note too, because soon after they launched the black "grown up" version of it

Well yes - but only if you're likely to go into business servicing them or you're going to run an entire fleet of them I should imagine! I suppose if you're going to do a Don McCullin and get caught in war zones, some of the external could be handy, but won't the electrickerybitz be bv883red anyway?

Actually I did a workshop manual for a laptop once: had to disassemble and reassemble it whilst taking photos of each stage. It never worked again!

However if anyone's after a fully assembled D70 with 18-70 lens, I've just been offered a cancelled order...
