Batch editing in photoshop

A bit difficult to explain...
I recorded the action (resizing, smart sharpen, save as) and now I apply it to open photos. However I would like always the LONGER edge resized to specific size. Is there any way to do it? If I will for example resize the height to 2048 while recording, when applying as a batch action it will resize all photos to be 2048 px high, doesn't matter are they portrait or horizontal...

Not tried this myself yet, but this claims to do what you want: http://blog.hanpo.tw/2011/12/according-to-long-sid...

Yes, you can do that but don't use 'image resize' in the image menu..I recorded the action (resizing, smart sharpen, save as) and now I apply it to open photos. I have an action to prepare images for web use that resizes the image to be 750px on the longest side.
The command is: File - Automate - Fit Image...
Then type in 2048x2048. It'll resize the longest side to that size
