I need one of the above so I can use my Metz flash gun Anyone know where I can find one?

You could try posting on www.nikonians.org.

NB Your Metz is unlikely to support the D70s iTTL function - though they do now make one that does.

Thanks for that. looks like the only ones I can use are the SB-800 and SB-600. Oh well, I can always sell it with my Bronica kit.

Do you happen to know if any of the old SBs can be used with the D bodies (with varying degrees of loss of functionality) ?

I believe they will work, but not in all respects, as you suggest. I think the first thing that will go is distance information, which the G lenses send to the flash to help it calculate exposure.

BUT I stress I'm speaking only from received wisdom here: do join Nikonians - they have an entire forum just on Speedlights and, just like PH, people all over the world with a mass of experience.
