Camera insurance recommendations? Europe + in car cover.
Discussion
Hi,
I am looking for advice and recommendations on what companies offer good camera/camcorder insurance at a decent rate.
I do need:
European cover (approx 30 days/year),
Unattended vehicle cover,
Value of approx £3000 (several cameras + accessories).
I don't NEED, but would be nice;
Accidental damage cover,
Loss,
Camera hire in case of theft.
If anyone has any tips of any specialists to approach then I would be most grateful. So far, by looking on google, I have found cover for about £120-£150/year, which seems a bit expensive to me. I haven't had camera insurance before so maybe I am just expecting too much!

I was with Photoguard for a couple of years, they were OK but getting a bit pricey.
I am now with Cliik, who I can't recommend enough, I have my own contact there, Steve, who I can email any time and get a proper reply, they don't need a kit list, just a value, so are happy if you're flipping kit around (Photoguard used to charge to change the inventory) and cover me for in-vehicle and overseas, providing I tell them when I'm going away. I just drop Steve an email from the airport and I'm done.

Can you not get them added as items to your home insurance policy?
We have and it covers four grand apiece in kit at a given time, covers us at home and outside the home, in the car, abroad, etc. And includes accident cover. Before taking it out I checked they had good reviews on paying out.

I find Glover and Howe very helpful. They insure against theft from unattended vehicles, unlike many. I've used them for years and claims (I've never had a big claim, just dropped lenses and the like) have always been dealt with quickly and efficiently. They also do my PL and PI cover.

I risked it and went without insurance in the end and all was ok. The reason I went without is I couldn't get the cover I needed from any of the companies!
If they could cover unattended vehicles then they couldn't cover them at night, or couldn't cover me for hobby use, or couldn't cover liability for an exterior suction mount (with tether). Always just one part of the cover I need missing from each different company I rang!
Anyway, I will probably have more equipment by the time next years trips come along so will look into it again then.

My house contents insurance covers my camera equipment in the car as long as it is locked in the boot.If they could cover unattended vehicles then they couldn't cover them at night, or couldn't cover me for hobby use, or couldn't cover liability for an exterior suction mount (with tether).
