Magazine

Can anyone point me to the "best" photographic magazine?

I'm (very) new to photography and looking for the best mag for reviews, tips etc.

So, what's the Evo of photography mags?

When I first started out I subscribed to http://www.digitalslrphoto.com/ for a year which was like £8 on some deal. I've looked through others and the decision over which mag feels arbitrary. They all have roughly the same content and advice and 12 months of any of them magazines is more than enough.

I used to choose whichever one had the feature on glamour photography. A veritable Page 3 of chest furniture it was.




But that was the '80s; it's not allowed now

And talkphotography.

Perhaps it's just me but I really don't like talkphotography. I find that it's filled with average photographers with average portfolios who will pick apart even amazing imagery far out of their own capabilities. I know it's a bit of an ad hominem argument but I saw it happen more than once and it was rather irritating. I have never found a need to go anywhere other than here and 500px/Flickr/See.me for my photography fix.

Seriously OP - you'll get all the advice/inspiration you need right here. This is a small and friendly (yet well informed) forum with everything from complete beginners to experienced pros contributing

If you're a Canon user, you might want to have a look at Photography On The Net. It's Canon only at present but they are talking of it covering all brands.

I find that the best magazine is a holy grail you won't find!

After a period - usually a year - they all seem to have to regurgitate what they covered before. As for kit reviews - some of them are biased - and often quite flawed in what they have to say.

These days, the internet has lots of information

OP - do you have an iPad?

If so, take a look at the Readr app.

£6.99 per month gives you access to hundreds of magazines ... there is a wide choice of photography ones.

If nothing else, you could subscribe for a month and try them all out to find the one you like the best.
