New Start New Camera. But What?

Where do i start, i have a 400d with two okay lenses and a lumix DMC-G3 ( never been used) so i would like a new camera as i would love to get back into photography. I have been thinking of the 7D but thats only because that i really like canon, but i am open to what people think is best, i only have two cheep lenses with the canon so changing brand if best is not a problem.
So witch new camera with the 7D type speck but not full frame, unless you think full frame is best. please can i have your help, as i will be using it on my holls soon.

I used to really like taking photos of landscape and animals and sometimes some cars, I used to try very much different angles and tried something always a little bit different, the 7D I can pick up for around £700 body only, and then a lens or two to get me on my way again, so I think that is an okay budget. But there are so many makes and models now it's just so baffling, I have an iMac and mac book pro for linking the camera up so everything should link up with that. And I am not to bothered about film as I have a go pro for that and another camera,

7D is a great camera. Although, it is a little old now perhaps? Its 3 years old I think. It's still a superb piece of kit though, I had one but then eventually sold it because I just wasn't using it (its a hefty beast and when you add in lenses and things, its quite a weight to lug round on the off chance of a photo you might want).The new 70D doesn't give too much away to the 7D in terms of build, but is lighter and has the same AF system and a much much better live-view mode. Penta-prism finder, flippy out screen (very very useful for when you want a very low or very high angle and can't quite get your face to the viewfinder), newer CMOS sensor (should have better noise control), built in WiFi and uses the more abundant SD cards. Also has the newer Digic processor from canon (as an example, 7D has dual digic 4's, the 70D has the digic 5+ yet performance is very similar, so that new chip has some chutzpah!)
Oh and its the same price at £699 body only (same place, DigitalRev, also selling the 7D at that price)
Quite an eye opener that, because I sold my 7D on ebay for more than that and it was well over a year old! And that was just before christmas, so not that long ago. You would have struggled to find a 7D new for much less than a grand though at that time. I guess the newer models are finally starting to offer the performance and more of the 7D for less money.

Why have you never used the Lumix? its a CSC right? so micro 4/3rds. Thats a great system with lots of body and lens choice (and reasonably priced) and they're much more conducive to spurr of the moment use! I swapped 7D to a CSC camera and find it much better for actually taking photos with (quality doesn't quite match the 7D, but I actually put that down to the lenses available for the NEX system. I used an adapter and an A-mount Carl Ziess lens and the results were probably the best I have ever produced.)

I don't know why I have not used it, the lenses have put me off and I'm not sure on the live view. It was a bit of an impulse buy that has never got used. I can not rember what the spec of it is. Mr Will said:
If I were you I'd treat yourself to a new lens and then get out there and shoot. Upgrading to a 7D now is likely going to give you a brief spell of shiny new toy syndrome and then it'll sit on the shelf next to the other two.

It's fine, go and buy the shiny toy. We all do from time to time, just don't kid yourself that it is a need rather than a want.

The biggest thing for me is more FPS as the 400 is not great along with SD card as both my macs read the SD and I have a few SD cards to use already, don't get me wrong the 400 was great for the small amount of time that I used it, I was wondering if there where any other makes / models to look at, Me? I'd be buying a lens, a CF card and a holiday to use them on but it's your choice.
What lenses would people recommend? 10-22 f2.8 is very tempting
I think FPS is overrated. Unless you're shooting sports or other fast-moving things you simply get lots of pictures all the same and have to delete all but one. It's like buying a car because the speedo says '160mph'. Similarly don't choose a camera based on what kind of memory it uses; it simply isn't a valid factor.
Like others I think you want a new toy (don't worry, I'm doing the same with hi-fi!) and that is taking precedence over what pictorial results you can get for your budget. If you want results, take the advice offered here. If you want a new toy, just go and buy what you want - it will be more than capable
