My sensor is manky!

So the other day I took a photo then noticed a huge dull orb right in the middle.

Unfortunately cleaning, seems to have replaced the orb with a pebble dashing of smaller particles.

I actually started by using a soft, lint free, clean cloth to wipe the sensor which is probably a mistake, then it turned out that lint free doesn't mean lint free. Then I employed what looks like a soft make up brush and that seemed to work, but it just moved the dirt to the corners and edges. Then I tried compressed air and now I have a lots of tiny specks everywhere.

This is the one majorly bad thing about these mirror less cameras. No mirror and no shutter to protect you when you change lenses. The sensor is bare to the world and only about 20 mm away from being totally exposed.

So, what should I do now that I have fked it up?

I use Sensor Swabs to clean my DSLRs. Always happy with the result, but can take 2 or 3 goes to get it really clean.

Firstly stop using stuff not designed for the job!

I use visible dust green swabs with vdust formula. If you can afford it the led loupe is well worth the money and makes the job a lot easier, you can see how successful you've been (or otherwise!).

The great thing about my recent acquisition, a medium format digital back, is that there is no proddling about down into the mirror box like some kind of photographic gynaecologist, the sensor is right there in front of you.
