Photoshop - help with changing colour of clothing.
Discussion
I've had help here with getting fabric samples photographed examples here:
www.berkswelldirect.com/fabric/lamour.html
and now I'm looking to do something to change the colour of dresses to reflect the colour of the available samples.
So if I had this picture:
How would I go about changing it to black to reflect the colours of the fabric sample in this picture without effecting the skintones of the model:
I'm assuming this can be done in Adobe Photoshop 7(seen it on another website and it looked very realistic), but can it be done easily?
Would be very grateful for any help on this, especially if it can be automated, as I've got up to 137 dresses with up to 16 colours = 2192
to do.

to do. Easiest way is to make a mask of the dress, ie, use the pen tool and draw round the dress only, to make a path, save this so you only have to do it once
Make selection...
Then go to IMAGE - ADJUST - CHANNEL MIXER and play around till you get the colours you want.
Thats the easiest way, if I have explained myself ok that is

I don't really want to have to play around, more of a find and replace using the sample colour that "Simpo two" did for me.
Or more that I know that I have not got the patience to do it the way you have suggested and I'm likely to make a real pigs ear of it.

Black is easy to do because you just lose the colour and reduce brightness until it looks about right. Changing colour is also easy but you still have to select the area to change. Send me a high-res one and tell me what colour you want it: I fancy a challenge!
As high res as we go, in purple

That red looks a bit lary - and what happened to the fingers of her left hand?
To do a pukka job on that would take ages due to the complexity, overlaps etc. I suggest you say on your website: 'Also available in purple'![]()
Thats exactly what it says at the moment, but I'm sure potential customers, would like to have at least one photo in the correct colour, even if it is a simulated picture. I guess a picture of one of the swatches might do as a compromise.
Cheers everyone for helping out, I thought there might have been an easy way to do it, without all the hard graft and that I just didn't know how to do it.
Just had a look at your website, I hope you don't mind me saying this but it would be helpful if you could give a indication of how much a made to measure dress would be - even if it was only a very rough guide. I'm a not a standard size, having something made to measure would be a godsend.
Dammit, I bought an evening dress earlier this month... still, I really like that one. Oh decisions decisions....
PS: I'll pass on your website details to the ladies at work, there are quite a few of us that have to go to several formal dinners each year.

Well custom sizing is an additional £30, (which is incidently at the bottom of the size option - but it might be better if we make that a little clearer). We like confirm the sizing with the manufacturers, before taking the order if possible (helps avoid disappointment).
What we do is take the nearest bust size (up) and can then extend to your waist and hip measurements. There are limits to this however, depending on the dress design.
The good thing about that Juno dress is the adjustable ties at the back, so it will give you a couple of inches of play either way at the bust and waist. Probably best to phone or email Anna (she can normally confirm everything including delivery dates with the manufacturers within a few hours).

Whoops I missed it, I think your suggestion is a good one, personally it would be one of the major reasons I would guy from your website and is something that separates you from your competitors.
I'm not wildly different to a standard size but being able to get the waist taken in at the manufacturing stage would be helpful. I always have to take bodices to a tailor to get them altered after purchase which is never quite as good.
Good luck with the site.
