I'm surprised myself, but my new favourite walkaround lens is the fisheye
I bought the Canon 8-15mm and I haven't taken it off the 6D since.

Excellent set, I guess you had to get in really close for some of those - were all the people in the shots happy about that, or did you get some funny looks/aggro? One of the things I like about my 85mm is that I don't have to get too close!!

Awesome shots - love the effect you get with that lens.

Excuse my ignorance but noticed a couple of the shots were completely round (I believe the different effects are called 'circular' and 'linear'(???)) - how does that happen to some shots, but not all? Or did you use a different lens?

The amazing thing about this lens for street photography is that people don't think you are even shooting them, because the camera is pointed in different direction

The circular effect is at 8mm on full frame, then it's a full 180 degrees horizontal and vertical.

If you didn't want all of the pictures to be fisheye you could always correct them in Lightroom.

I love this lens. I've had it since it came out and used it much more than I expected to on my 5D MkII.

Absolutely lovely. Nice and sharp as well which was never my experience with these lenses (then again I did only have a Sigma 10-20mm so probably not a patch on the canon!)


Going to San Fran and Vegas later this year and while the 10-18 mm for the NEX cameras is nearly a bag of sand, I think I can grab the fully manual Rokinon/Samyang fisheye for £300 or so. Just deciding whether its worth the investment... judging by these, Vegas at night will be crying out for a fisheye!

I was also contemplating buying the one of the 10-22 options but after renting the 8-15mm for few days I was sold on it.
I bought it mainly for dog photography, quick autofocus and ability to focus right by the front element are killer features for that. I also bought a Nissin ring flash, the only one that kind of fits around it (apparently nobody buys ring flashes for fisheye lenses )

I've tried pretty much all the ringflashes available (BH Photos in New York - if something was ever released for photography, they will have it in stock! What a shop! ) and Nissin was the only one that KINDA fits. I forced it on a bit but it works well without the hood.





And now I can do this :
