Right, I've got a 10-22mm which I love, but want some extra reach for landscape work without incurring too much cost or weight.

The 24-105mm L seems to fit the bill. Could anyone who's got one chime in and tell me what it's like in the real world?

Ta muchly.

I bought one for my old 40D and now use it on my 7D. It's a good solid walkabout lens and is probably my most used one. Go for it.

It's a great lens but it is quite heavy. I've got a 600d and a 5d and it is much better balanced on the 5d so you might want to try one out. They can be hired for next to nothing for a weekend but once you see the images it produces and feel how nice it is to use you will want one!

Borrow mine and try it, I'm not using my 35mm stuff at the moment.

That would be very kind. Are you working tomorrow? I'm dropping something off at Jennings in Scarborough, so could swing past on the way home.

Depending how much reach you are after, I'd be tempted by the 17-55mm f2.8 instead. Smaller and lighter, a more versatile range, a stop faster and the image quality is supposed to be right up there with the L lenses.

Nope, out and about for the weekend I'm afraid.

Anything else you want a play with? 17-40? 24mm TS-E? 135mm f2? 100-400? 5D3? 1Ds2?

I fear the TS, but wish to master its weirdosity.

Wouldn't mind jollying the 5D3 around for a bit (prolly with the 17-40 as the nearest equivalent to my 10-22). Low light heaven!
