Award winning photo
Discussion
Think I would have deleted the winning photo before it got off the camera if I had taken it, not that great a subject, power lines in the background and not enough horse in the photo and looks a bit over exposed in the sky.
Am I just rubbish at judging my own and other's photos or missing something other people think is great?

Mostly cliched, poorly composed or just a bit 'meh', but I did like no. 9 (although the composition could be better).
I agree the pony one doesn't work for me, I'd either want to go closer or further back, it's in that awkward middle-ground atm. I think the judges just like ponies though, there's another (no. 20) that looks like a still from a Russian dashcam

well it is the iDIOTphone awards
Not sure of your point, tbh.I like #2 and #14. I'd like them a whole lot more if they weren't Instagrammed to death.
All that vignetting and making things look "vintage" doesn't add atmosphere, IMHO, it adds s
teness. There are a few that have nice lines, but crap light (the food winner, for example. No, I don't think the flare was in any way intentional). And some that have good light, but crap lines.

You mean the one where the food is dropping out of the frame? He did get a nice selfy in the microwave though, which is great for putting on his insta-face-gram-book page I like #2 and #14. I'd like them a whole lot more if they weren't Instagrammed to death.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to take a good picture with an iPhone, but are these really the best examples out there? I see better stuff on here on a daily basis...
I like number 2 - reminds me of the Afghan Girl (I'm assuming intentionally?). I'm not mad on most of those, but because they aren't especially intesting photos, rather than the format they were shot on.
In fairness, the idea of using an iPhone to take 'pro' pictures interests me. I read a good article recently about how Time got some pros to cover Hurricane Sandy using only Smartphones and Instagram. Originally it was intended to just provide immediate coverage but the images were so good they published them.
If you strip away the technicalities of working the kit, which is all learnable, the art is in the eye/composition, right? I wonder if the biggest challenge for 'serious' iPhone photography is just perception, as you aren't carrying complex, impressive kit...?
