Any problem with this?

70-200 with 2x extender on tripod:



With just the 70-200 on my 5D, the lens + camera balance perfectly on the lens tripod mount.

With the Canon 2x Mkiii extender, I can slide the plate forward to balance the tripod head, but given the weight of this kit is this putting undue strain on the camera lens mount, or the extender lens mount?

No problems - that's what the lens mount is for.
The weight of the camera body isn't really that much is it?!!
If had that set up just hanging off the body without supporting the lens, then yes you'd have issues.

That's good to know. Once the extender is added it's a bit heavy to hold in shooting position for more than a couple of minutes.

I've just edited to add a bit more, yes, as long as you don't just hang everything off the body, it'll be fine.

The body is 895g + battery, so not the lightest.
