Tin hats on, boys
Being strictly non-partisan (for once!), the general rule is you get what you pay for. Received wisdom has it that if you are a top sports photographer and spend Ks on lenses, then Canon have it at present. But if not, then Rule One applies.
(by simpo two who just accidentally mentioned he has a nice D70 available...)

Nikon, get your self a D70. Bloody brilliant camera. "Er in doors" got me one for my birthday and Christmas, and gave it me early (and the camera). Not stopped playing with it (and the camera) since I got it. Superb pics and quality, went to watch the grandaughter play football and took 200+ pics in an hour using the continuous shooting function.

Here we go
Best sport/action lenses, probably Canon. Everything else, probably about the same...but :-
One thing that Nikon have missed a trick on is anti-shake. I'm told that the VR lenses are very good but boy do they cost a lot!
There are some cheep(ish} Canon IS's that work very well.

Did wonder if i should post the question given the ongoing debates on here
.
However, it is the biggest issue i have currently. Have looked at the D70&D100, but must also admit to hankering after a D1. Not sure about the EOS20D given the firmware jiggling going on and tales of lockup, but the 10D is currently available at some good prices
As the ad said "Daddy or chips, Daddy or chips"
Any and all input welcome. Cheers.

As far as I know, all the original firmware 20D's worked fine. Most of the updates fixed stuff you shouldn't care about anyway. I can't understand all the firmware updating. If you've not got a problem, LEAVE IT ALONE. My 10D's still on it's original and I've never had an issue.
Want to by my 10D so I can get a 20?

With the margin I might just get a tank of petrol...
