Micro SD in SLR

Morning all, I'm interested in using a Micro SD card with an (SD card) adapter in my DSLR. From the googling I've done it seems if I buy a class 10 then I shouldn't see any adverse affects in performance. Apparently the adapter doesn't have any real world negative effect on performance either. In fact the only downside I've read is that the adapter connections can sometimes be faulty but the adapter themselves only cost a few pounds so it's not too expensive to just stock up on a few..

The reason I want to do this is for easy transfer of photos from DSLR to tablet for viewing.

Does anyone have any experience of this and know of any reasons why it would be a bad idea?

Why is it easier to transfer to tablet? Does the tablet have a micro-SD slot but not an SD slot?

Sorry, yes exactly that - it has a micro SD slot only. As an added benefit my phone also has a micro SD slot so I can put pictures from the DSLR onto that also if I want to send them quickly to someone or post online..

I like the idea of taking a tablet on holiday so I can view pictures and do some basic editing without having to lug around a laptop.

Can't help with your query about using the adapters (although my gut instinct is not to trust them!), but I can confirm how good it is having a tablet to view you holiday snaps on...small and light enough to carry around every day and whip out in a quiet moment...

I just use a usb card reader though, since my tablet has a usb port.

Buy something branded and you will be fine.

There may be some loss in speed but it's not going to affect usage much. Transfer speeds between the card and tablet might be a little slower.

No reason not to use one if you think its the best way to go.

Haven't tried one with a micro SD in the adapter but my wife put an empty micro SD adapter in my Canon 550D and it stopped the camera from booting afterwards. Even taking the battery out and putting it back in (all with the adapter now out).
Took 5 attempts to get the camera working again, scared the crap out of me!

I do exactly what you want to do in my 500D and have not had any problems in over a year having taken it on a few holidays and family gatherings. As has been said just get decent quality adapters.

It will work just fine.

Don't forget to set the photos to "RAW +JPG" otherwise you won't be able to see the RAW files on your tablet

I really like coming home, transferring to the laptop and seeing what I've got. A bit like waiting for film to develope.

But then I guess I must be a bit old fashioned.

I love doing it on the way home, it's a perfect way to kill waiting time at the aiports and long flights
